About Us

The Home-School Connections Research Team is housed in the Department of Applied Psychology within New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. Following a partnership-based model, the investigations stemming from the team address the socio-cultural contexts of early child development. We investigate the ways daily adult-child interactions both at home and at school shape young children’s development of school readiness skills, and in particular their language, early literacy, and socioemotional skills.

Funded by the Brooke Astor Fund for New York City Education and the Brady Educational Foundation, the Reading Success Using Co-Constructive Elaborative Storytelling Strategies (R-SUCCESS) project seeks to improve the reading readiness of Latine and African heritage children from low-income families through a teacher-focused oral storytelling intervention that capitalizes on the cultural forms of narrative Latine and African heritage children bring into the preschool classroom.
